An unexpected long waking after a few good nights
We are on night 6 of sleep training with our 8 month old. The first two nights were rough, but then Fri, Sat, & Sun she went down after a few minutes. She is a mess tonight. She is still screaming 35 minutes after putting her down. Is this to be expected?
I don’t know the details of your plan, but in general, yes, this is normal. Many people call this an “extinction burst,” where there is a long stretch of wakefulness at bedtime or in the middle of the night. It usually only lasts a night if you are consistent in your actions. You may also want to jot down the timing of your daughter’s naps and bedtime. It’s possible that this isn’t an extinction burst, but instead relates to not enough napping or a stretch of wakefulness that was too long or too short at the end of the day.
